About Us
Teaching-Artist Biography
Kathryn combines her passions for art and community by
facilitating in-person art classes and programs provincially, and virtually
on a national scale. She has over nine years of experience
working within the Canadian art sector as an artist, instructor,
organizer and facilitator. In Kathryn’s professional art practice,
she explores environmental, cultural and social practices that
connect communities across disciplines. She utilizes mixed
media techniques in her painting, drawing, and sculptural
practices that often explore the human condition as it exists
within the Anthropocene. Kathryn believes that art is an
essential human practice that builds meaningful connections
across cultures and communities.

The Relaxing Art of Painting Clouds

Get inspired by the beautiful skies across Canada! Join BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel and create a series of cloud-inspired paintings on canvas or paper. You’ll explore shape, form and movement through the formation of clouds using your choice of acrylic, oil, gouache or watercolour paints.
With reference photos from her travels across Canada, Kathryn will guide you through the relaxing art of painting clouds, as well as demonstrate a variety of painting techniques and colour mixing recipes—and encourage your expressive style!
Watercolour for Beginners

Join BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel in our weekly watercolour painting program — perfect for beginners! Kathryn will introduce you to a variety of watercolour painting materials, tools and techniques to inspire the development of your painting practice. Students will be guided through demonstrations and exercises exploring colour mixing, brush work application and creating dimension through layering techniques. Please bring your own supplies to the first class.
Landscape Watercolour Painting

This program is open to intermediate level participants who wish to explore watercolour landscape painting techniques. With encouraging guidance and step-by-step demonstrations, Kathryn will guide students through painting techniques to create realistic and expressive watercolour landscape paintings. Kathryn will provide demonstrations for elements of landscape painting including: compositional sketches, colour mixing, gradients, glazing layers and brushwork techniques. Students will further develop their watercolour painting practice and create personalized landscape watercolour paintings on paper. Participants are encouraged to bring personal landscape reference photos to use as inspiration for their paintings.

Kathryn will provide examples from professional artists and artistic movements, lead demonstrations to inspire students’ art projects and encourage their creative self-expression. Young artists will have the opportunity to create hand-made artist paper from natural and recycled sources, paint locally inspired landscape paintings, develop a series of nature-prints, challenge their creativity with up-cycled sculpture and more!
Abstract Acrylic Painting: Part 1

Spend a lovely Sunday afternoon getting creative and learning the basics of abstract acrylic painting! In this two-part intro workshop, Kathryn will introduce you to different types of acrylic paint.
She will also guide you through a variety of abstract painting techniques and colour mixing exercises to create a series of miniature abstract artworks. A great workshop for tuning into your creative flow.
Part One: Kathryn will introduce you to acrylic painting tools and provide a step-by-step demonstration on how to customize your colour palette. You’ll learn how to create secondary, tertiary, neutral and contrasting hues, as well as experiment with painting techniques to create a series of colourful abstract paintings.
